ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I became interested in lampwork after reading an article on the tradition of the ancient Venetians and their artisans.

I was intrigued by the fact that they guarded their craft carefully during the Renaissance and moved their glass industry to the island of Murano. This insured that their artistry secrets remained isolated. Unless you came from a family of glass makers it was extremely difficult to learn anything about the craft.

We do know they used oil lamps to put their lime soda glass into a molten stage before forming their beads. Even today they still try to keep secrets of their craft.

Lampworkers today use a 1700-degree torch with an oxygen/propane mix to form their glass creations. This inspired me to take the most advanced classes offered on learning this art form.

After years of working with glass and experimenting with different techniques in my studio, I have evolved into a respected creator of unique glass jewelry.

The desire to create exquisite jewelry has become a passion of mine in keeping with Venetian traditions. All the glass beads in my designs are kiln annealed for 24 hours to make them the strongest beads possible . . . withstanding the test of time as the reward.

My other profession as a flight attendant for the past 21 years has allowed me to travel abroad and search out the best markets for the finest crystals, gems, and precious metals to incorporate in my designs.

I hope you will enjoy my pieces as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
